Church History

Peace Tabernacle Assembly of God Church was in the heart of Rev. Dr. Robert L. Graham during the late summer of 1971, after his graduation from North Central Bible College, which is now known as "North Central University."

Not having the direction of where to go after being at Gospel Temple Church under the leadership of Rev. Drs. Walter and Willa Battle for almost 14 years, God directed him to this small Church at 1162 Marshall Avenue which he had never noticed, and it was only a few doors from his home!  The Church officially opened its doors November 14, 1971.  Prior to this, the building was filled with the prayers of Rev. Graham, his wife and a very good friend by the name of Elder Townsend from East St. Louis, IL.  Elder Townsend prepared the Sunday School for the Church by dividing the area into individuals rooms.

When the doors opened, the congregation consisted of Rev. Graham, his wife, and children, Sister Inez Handy, Deaconess Christine Thomas, and Mother Clemenza Williams.

The Music Department consisted of Rev. Graham strumming on the guitar and good old hand clapping!

There wasn't advertisement, but people began to visit.  Some stayed and many went on.  As God continued to bless, the Church became too small for the growing congregation.  In 1976, the new addition was added.

Just as the addition was added, so were many souls.  Peace Tabernacle could be known as the "Revolving Door Ministries!"  The best thing about it is, God has never gone out of the revolving door!
